The Alexander Friends of the Library was organized in 1967 as a citizen support group for the newly-opened Alexander County Library. There were 57 charter members.
Since its beginning, this non-profit group has been active in promoting and supporting the public library and its programs, much as the PTA does for schools.
Over the years, the Friends have raised funds for:
- new furnishings and shelves
- new books and movies
- children’s programs
- new microfilm reader
- the beautiful azaleas, and so much more.
Friends have contributed thousands of volunteer hours in the library, at library functions, and promoting the library.
